According to a recent study published in Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research (JVSR), a patient suffering from Multiple Sclerosis was helped and relieved with Chiropractic care. According to the study, the patient, a woman of 47 years of age, experienced the symptoms (like cognitive problems and loss of bladder control) of Multiple Sclerosis at 44 years of age. She first visited Neurologist, who after seeing multiple lesions on MRI results (MS Plaques) diagnosed her with Multiple Sclerosis.
Two years later her condition got even worse with weakness in legs and parenthesis in her arms and legs. As her condition continued to get worse, her Neurologist recommended drug therapy. Her condition was diagnosed to be of “Chronic Progressive Multiple Sclerosis”. At this junction, the patient decided to take Chiropractic treatment for the same.
The patient’s history included a fall around 10 years prior to the onset of symptoms of Multiple Sclerosis. Through medical examinations and x-rays, Chiroprator found that she had subluxations in upper cervical (upper neck). Following that her chiropractic therapy for upper cervical subluxations was begun. Regular chiropractic therapy was continued for two years. During the course of therapy, patient’s condition was constantly monitored through x-rays, thermo graphic scans, neurologist’s evaluations, MRI and patients description of symptoms.
Regular MRI studies and Neurologist check-ups showed that after just four months of chiropractic care, all Multiple Sclerosis symptoms were absent. MRI results showed reduction in intensity of original lesions while no new lesions were formed. Regular checkups after year suggested further decrease in original lesions and two years after upper cervical chiropractic care began, all Multiple Sclerosis symptoms were absent.
The study shows how Chiropractic care can help a patient with Multiple Sclerosis. For more information and expert chiropractic treatment, visit us at Corrective Chiropractic and Wellness.

A case study published in February 2003 issue of “The Journal Of Manipulative & Physiological Therapeutics, (JMPT) showed that Chiropractic care can relieve patient suffering from Chronic Chest pain. According to the case study, patient - a 49 year old male (music composer by profession) while working out on a treadmill, felt pain in chest followed with difficulty in breathing. Thinking it to be slight muscular problem the patient initially ignored it. With time as the pain grew even more severe, the patient had to visit a physician.
Patient’s Internist found the blood pressure to be 140/97 and he was diagnosed with muscular chest pain. Patient was prescribed with beta-blockers and anti-inflammatory drugs. The medication did not do any good, instead the patient felt extremely drowsy due to beta-blockers.
Even after taking the medication, the condition of patient continued to deteriorate. Extensive tests were performed, all with negative results and patient was deemed to be normal. His heart and lung were functioning normally, but the condition of the patient kept on worsening. The chest pain branched out to upper back and patient was not able to do the daily routine jobs comfortably. He had trouble with sleeping and his condition started to affect his emotional well being.
Ultimately, the patient resorted on to Chiropractic Care. His chiropractic examination was done and it was found that the patient had subluxations. The patient was administered chiropractic therapy. Immediately after the therapy he was able to breathe much easily. The patient was put on 3-Times a week chiropractic care therapy. The patient showed positive results for the treatment and after 14 months of chiropractic care, he was fully cured of his condition.
This study shows that Chiropractic care can be effective in treating chronic chest pain. For more information on how Chiropractic care can help you visit us at Isdale Corrective Chiropractic clinic located at 716 Indian Trail, Suite 120, Harker Heights, TX 76548 or call us at 254.698.1600

Some have found the advantage of chiropractic treatment to assist with headaches. However, chiropractic in total is an idea to alleviate complete wellness with manipulations and massages. A lot of people have never given it a thought to ask a chiropractor to aid with their chronic headache. It has been seen that people suffering from chronic headache are increasing by the day. It can be due to their monotonous life style, sitting in front of the computer for all day long or various other factors. More chiropractors are coming across people suffering from headaches, and they are giving them a surgery and drug-free technique of pain relief.
Chiropractic is all about alleviating pain, and serving patients to live healthier, pain free lives without depending upon the medications available in the market. Many headaches, mainly those that are chronic in nature are because of the spine near the neck being out of alignment. A chiropractor physically controls and manipulates the spine, which enhances the flow of blood and improves the posture. In addition, the Chiropractic may give a massage and a trigger point therapy together with some stretching or exercises that a patient can perform at home.
Headaches occur because of the musculoskeletal problems related with spine and neck and are within the range of the chiropractic specialty. Though many people are finding this therapy relieving due to manipulation of the spine together with massage and trigger point for several types of headaches. This is not extraordinary as the chiropractic professional looks for several ways in which to give relief to the patient rather than centering on surgeries or medications as many MD's do.
While there are many kinds of headaches, but actually they are symptoms of something else in the body. So a chiropractor may not essentially cure headaches instead; they discover the main reason of the problem and treat it to alleviate the pain. Additionally, chiropractic treatment assists in decreasing the stress and muscle strain in the neck, which in many cases is the reason for the problem.

Chiropractic therapy is aimed at imparting wellness by manipulations and non-medicinal procedures. We have seen patients with severe ailments benefitting from Chiropractic Therapy. Even patients with Myasthenia Gravis can be benefitted with proper Chiropractic Therapy. According to a case study published in the Manipulative Physiological Therapy Journal, Chiropractic care can help in the treatment of a patient with Myasthenia Gravis. In this case, a 2 year old girl had complaints of ptosis and generalized muscle weakness i.e. lethargy in the lower extremities.
On request and consent of her parents, the patient was provided Chiropractic care. Before starting with Chiropractic management, tests like Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) of the brain and acetylcholine receptor antibody were performed with negative results. However, positive results were seen in the Tensilon test and a Pediatrician diagnosed Myasthenia Gravis.
During Chiropractic therapy, the patient was provided contact-specific, high-velocity, low-amplitude adjustments to sites of vertebral subluxation complexes in the upper cervical and sacral spine. Positive response to the chiropractic care encouraged her parents to continue with the treatment. After 5 months of regular therapy, her symptoms were completely resolved.
Patient’s medical reports and feedback from parents and chiropractor made it evident that pediatric problems like myasthenia gravis can be treated with the help of Chiropractic intervention.

A recent case study was published in the Manipulative Physiological Therapy Journal regarding the role of chiropractic therapy in vision recovery. The objective of the case study is to know whether chiropractic spinal manipulation can correct loss of vision suffered by a patient after falling and getting a facial fracture.
The 53-year old woman fell down a stairwell, following which, she had fractured her right Zygomatic arch. Also suffering from migraines, she received surgical treatment. After 3 weeks of the accidents, she experienced reduced vision in her contralateral eye. Moreover, electrophysiologic studies revealed that both optic nerves had become weak, the right more than the left.
During chiropractic care, spinal manipulation was used to help in recovery of vision to normal. This treatment was spread over a course of 20 sessions, with significant improvements occurring immediately after spinal manipulation. Serial visual field tests were also conducted to monitor the progressive recovery of her vision.
The primary aim of the chiropractic therapy was to remove the dysfunction in the central nervous system rather than correcting a spinal derangement. The critical feature of this case was the presence of suboccipital tenderness in the cervical spine. Most probably, the patient’s entire cerebral vascular system was stressed by a vasospastic influence.
Initially, the patient did not receive any indication about the chances of improvement in her vision from other medical practitioners. Her orthodox ophthalmologists and scientists did not express confidence in return to normal vision. In contrast, chiropractors related her illness with her migraine condition. She was also recommended to undergo spinal manipulation for complete recovery of vision. Within a few sessions, the patient had started reporting successful vision recovery without surgical treatment.
To conclude, this case supports chiropractic and manipulative therapy as an alternative treatment for optic nerve malfunctioning.

According to the Manipulative Physiological Therapy Journal, a case study indicates the possible use of chiropractic care for treating rotator cuff impingement. The report involves a patient with shoulder impingement syndrome that was managed with a conservative multimodal approach.
In this case, the patient suffered from anterior shoulder pain and an ache in the right upper arm. On palpation, he also experienced tenderness in the shoulder area. Along with limited motion in the shoulder region, he had limited and painful cervical motion problem. Physical and orthopedic examination revealed that the patient has shoulder impingement syndrome.
When referred to a chiropractor, the patient was given multimodal treatment. This included phonophoresis, soft tissue therapy, diverse manipulations and exercises for the rotator cuff and shoulder girdle muscles. After several chiropractic sessions and pain measurements, the patient experienced better motion in the shoulder and returned to normal daily activities.
The treatment ended when the patient became free of all symptoms and all outcomes were normal. Follow-up sessions were conducted after 4 and 12 weeks, during which the patient continued to be completely free of all symptoms of rotator cuff impingement. His range of motion was renewed and he was able to conduct pre-treatment activities.
On the whole, this case study highlights the success of chiropractic therapy in resolving the symptoms of a patient with shoulder impingement syndrome. With a multimodal treatment approach involving soft tissue techniques, ultrasound, manipulation and rehabilitation, an appropriate care strategy was developed and implemented.

As published in the Journal of Manipulative Physiological Therapy, a case study pointed towards the benefits of chiropractic care for treatment of Ulnar Tunnel Syndrome (UTS). UTS is not very common and can be easily mistaken for carpal tunnel syndrome by medical professional who are not sure about the exact differences.
In spite of the great interest of chiropractors in nerve compression syndromes, little has been published about the growing popularity of chiropractic extremity care for relieving the symptoms of Ulnar Tunnel Syndrome.
The case study involves a patient with Ulnar Tunnel Syndrome who witnessed resolution of symptoms with the help of chiropractic adjustments. The 45 year old female had experienced numbness in her little finger. The symptom was revealed in standard orthopedic testing procedures for the wrist and hand but the cervical spine and thoracic outlet region tests were negative.
When she was referred to the chiropractor, the patient’s care consisted of chiropractic extremity adjustments. These were directed to the wrist area, especially the hamate and pisiform articulations with the triquetrum. Within four sessions of chiropractic therapy, all the symptoms of Ulnar Tunnel Syndrome were resolved. Further examinations indicated considerable improvement in her condition.
It is evident from this case report that a patient can expect to recover from Ulnar Tunnel Syndrome during typical chiropractic treatment. While simple and cost-effective examination and therapy are sufficient in most cases, these may not suffice for more complicated or chronic cases. In such circumstances, chiropractors will have to adopt sophisticated techniques to treat the patients.

A recent issue of the Canadian Chiropractic Association Journal published a case regarding an infant diagnosed with gastro esophageal reflux disease. The patient was given chiropractic treatment and notable improvements were observed in her condition after the chiropractic care sessions.
The mother of a 3-month old girl reported that the infant had symptoms like excessive intestinal gas, frequent vomiting, interrupted sleep, difficulty in breastfeeding, excessive crying and plagiocephaly. Previously, she had been treated with Prilosec medication. The patient was also diagnosed of gastro esophageal reflux disease (GERD) when she was 2 months old.
Observations by the infant’s mother also included fussy behavior during breastfeeding and high-pitched crying and vomiting after feedings. She also made an arching motion and become rigid when held or picked up. The only way to breastfeed the child was to walk and bounce her.
When examined by the chiropractor, the following symptoms were revealed:
- Great agitation and painful, excessive crying
- Positive suckling reflex without response to stimulus.
- Slight left lateral flexion of the cervical spine
- Flattening of the patient’s right occiput
- Moderate blistering on lower lip
- Rigidity and discomfort in abdomen
After the physical examination, it was determined that the infant has spinal dysfunctions at the atlas and 4th thoracic vertebrae. With the consent of her mother, the patient was provided chiropractic care in the form of high velocity low amplitude (HVLA) thrust type spinal manipulative therapy. Pediatric SMT and Craniosacral Therapy was also used to correct her problems.
Consequently, the patient’s mother reported that the child was able to feed from both breasts in a sitting position. Her sleeping time and quality also improved after initial treatment. After the 4th chiropractic visit, the mother took her daughter off Prilosec and also noted reduced vomiting and crying after the 7th visit. Long term follow up revealed that all the symptoms were resolved within 3 months of chiropractic care.

According to the Chiropractic & Osteopathy Journal, a case study involving an elderly male patient indicated the successful use of chiropractic therapy for dealing with lumbar disc herniation.
The patient had been suffering from a right-sided foot drop. After visiting a private spine clinic, he was prescribed an ankle-foot orthosis. During this time, there was no sensory, motor and reflex action in the right leg and foot. A neurologist confirmed the same after performing an electromyography and nerve conduction velocity testing.
When referred to a chiropractor, the patient was treated with the help of spinal manipulation. His sessions were scheduled twice a week along with wobble chair exercises three times daily for a total of 90 days. After several sessions of this chiropractic therapy, the patient was recommended for follow-up electro-diagnostic studies. In these studies, significant improvements were noticed in the patient’s own observations as well as daily functions.
On the whole, Lumbar disc herniation is a common problem found in manual medicine. However, chiropractic therapy needs to be conducted with proper care as it may affect the structure and function of the lumbar disc itself. Suffering from neurological deficit in the lower extremity, the patient was treated by using spinal manipulation and exercises. His progress and improvements were assessed through electro-diagnostic testing.
Instead of surgical alternatives, chiropractic care proved to be much more effective and non-invasive in the case of the elderly patient.

The Journal of J Manipulative Physiological Therapy described a recent case of chiropractic therapy for a patient suffering from paresthesia on the left side. Her Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) reports also documented cervical spinal cord deformation secondary to cervical spinal stenosis.
A special education teacher, the 70-year old female has neck pain, headaches and paresthesia on the entire left side of her body. She had started experiencing these symptoms within a few hours of getting injured in a side-impact motor vehicle accident. Before taking chiropractic help, she had been incorrectly diagnosed with a cerebrovascular accident.
Initially, the chiropractor conducted diagnostic studies on the patient. This led to the revealing of cervical spinal stenosis with deformed spinal cord. For treating her condition, two manipulative techniques based on the theory of relief of adverse mechanical neural tension were used. These included Advanced Biostructural Therapy and Atlas Coccygeal Technique.
Within a few sessions incorporating the manipulative techniques mentioned above, the patient felt complete relief from neck pain, headaches and paresthesia. The non-intrusive intervention methods used for her treatment are unique to the chiropractic profession. Even after one year of her accident, the patient remained free from symptoms at the long-term follow-up with the chiropractor.
To summarize, chiropractic therapy involves various manipulative methods that can help in the treatment of cervical spinal stenosis. The case reported impressive short-term and long-term response of a patient with cervical spinal stenosis and spinal cord deformation to unconventional, unique techniques of chiropractic care. While existing reports of manipulative management of paresthesia suggest that traditional therapy is not effective or even recommended, this case throws fresh light on the scope of chiropractic management for cervical spinal stenosis.
